Private Company Improving MD 121 (Clarksburg Pike) Bridge over I-270 as Part of Development Project
(August 8, 2016) – As part of a major local development project in Clarksburg, Montgomery County, the
MD 121 Bridge over I-270 is being widened by one lane in each direction. During construction, crews will need to close lanes on I-270 below, with intermittent complete closures to set steel. The closures are scheduled beginning tonight through Thursday morning (weather permitting):
• Double lane closures beginning at 9 p.m. in both directions of I-270 at MD 121
• 15 minute total closures 12 a.m. (midnight) to 5 a.m. in both directions of I-270
The nighttime weekday closures will continue this week, weather permitting. All lanes will re-open no later than 5 a.m. each morning.
The Maryland Department of Transportation’s State Highway Administration (SHA) recommends that overnight travelers use MD 355 (North Frederick Road) to MD 109 (Old Hundred Road) as an alternate route. Drivers should avoid using I-270 or plan for extra travel time.
While SHA and its transportation partners work hard to maintain safe traffic mobility in work zones, each driver needs to actively modify his or her driving style to help prevent crashes. Stay alert and look for reduced speed limits, narrow driving lanes and highway workers. Slow down and don’t follow too closely. Work Zone Safety is in Your Hands.
