Motorists Should Expect Single Lane Closures
(July 7, 2016) – The Maryland Department of Transportation’s State Highway Administration (SHA) is resurfacing more than six miles of
US 340 between MD 17 (Burkittsville Road) and Lander Road near Knoxville, Frederick County. Weather permitting, $2.6 million project will be complete late fall.
SHA’s contractor, Francis O. Day Company, Inc. of Rockville, will patch, grind (remove the top layer of pavement), resurface, restripe, and upgrade traffic barriers on the roadway. Crews will close one lane weekdays from 10 a.m. until 3 p.m. and 8 p.m. until 5 a.m. SHA will use barrels, dynamic message signs and arrow boards to guide drivers through the work zone. Motorists should plan for extra travel time during work.
The road was last resurfaced 12 years ago. Approximately 35,000 vehicles use this section of US 340 each day.
While SHA and its transportation partners work hard to maintain safe traffic mobility in work zones, each driver needs to actively modify his or her driving style to help prevent crashes. Stay alert and look for reduced speed limits, narrow driving lanes and highway workers. Slow down and don’t follow too closely. Work Zone Safety is in Your Hands.
A complete listing of current roadway projects is included in
