Motorists Should Expect Single and Double Nighttime Lane Closures

(June 8, 2016) – Beginning Tuesday night June 14, the Maryland Department of Transportation’s State Highway Administration (SHA) will resurface US 40 (Baltimore National Pike) between the Little Patuxent River Bridge and St. John’s Lane.  Weather permitting, the $2 million project will be complete late summer.

SHA’s contractor, Allan Myers MD, Inc. of Fallston, will patch, grind (remove the top layer of pavement), resurface and restripe the pavement.  Drivers should expect single and double lane overnight closures between 9 p.m. and 5 a.m.

Approximately 50,000 vehicles use this section of US 40 each day so motorists should plan extra travel time during work.  SHA will use barrels, dynamic message signs and arrow boards to guide motorists through the work zone. 

While SHA and its transportation partners work hard to maintain safe traffic mobility in work zones, each driver needs to actively modify his or her driving style to help prevent crashes. Stay alert and look for reduced speed limits, narrow driving lanes and highway workers.  Slow down and don’t follow too closely. Work Zone Safety is in Your Hands.
