Overnight Construction Ramp Closure Allows Crew to Replace an Underground Pipe
(May 16, 2016) – The Maryland Department of Transportation’s State Highway Administration (SHA) continues construction of the MD 180 (Ballenger Creek Pike) improvements at Solarex Court. The initial phase of work began mid-March as part of a $36.9 million corridor improvement between the MD 180 Bridge and Ballenger Creek Drive.
SHA must close the eastbound MD 180 ramp to northbound US 15 / US 340 (Catoctin Mountain Highway) Monday, May 16 at 9 p.m. through Tuesday, May 17 at 5 a.m. Crews will replace an underground pipe at the ramp.
In addition, crews will close the northbound MD 180 left-turn lane from Ballenger Center Drive to Solarex Court, restricting left-turn movements to the ramp. Drivers should plan for additional travel time.
The MD 180 intersection project will improve traffic operations at Solarex Court. It will increase the number of lanes from one to two in each direction for the 0.89-mile section of Ballenger Creek Pike along with intersection turn lanes. Weather permitting, the project will be open to traffic by the end of the year.
Those who have questions about this work may contact the SHA District 7 Office at 301-624-8200 or by email at
