Motorists Should Expect Daytime Flagging Operation; Consider US 40 as Alternate

(September 25, 2015) – On Monday, September 28, the Maryland Department of Transportation’s State Highway Administration (SHA) will begin bridge repairs on the MD 7 (Philadelphia Road) Bridge over the Little Gunpowder Falls in Bradshaw at the Baltimore/Harford County line. The repairs should be completed by the end of the year, weather permitting.

Crews will make concrete repairs to the bridge arch and walls. Single lane closures will occur seven days a week between 7:30 a.m. and 5 p.m. until the repairs are completed. Motorists will be guided through the work zone with a flagging operation, cones and barrels. Drivers should consider using US 40 (Pulaski Highway) as an alternate route. The cost of the project is approximately $171,000.

SHA’s contractor is PDI Sheets of Linthicum. The bridge was originally constructed in 1928 and carries nearly 8,500 vehicles each day.

In addition to this project, drivers may also encounter mobile or short-term work zones. Always expect the unexpected, pay extra close attention and drive slowly through any work zone. Whether it’s a tree trimming operation or a bridge project, be aware when orange is there: Think Orange (the color of construction equipment and signs), stay alert and slow down. Everyone is at risk.
