Major Delays Likely for Six Weeks; SHA Advises Motorists to use I-795 as Alternate Route
(September 22, 2015) –The Maryland Department of Transportation’s State Highway Administration (SHA) must replace a deteriorated culvert underneath MD 140 (Reisterstown Road) just south of Painters Mill Road in Owings Mills, Baltimore County. In order to expedite the work, SHA’s contractor will close two lanes on a one-half mile section of Reisterstown Road between Painters Mill Road and St. Thomas Lane beginning Thursday, September 24 at 10 p.m. The closure will remain in effect 24-hours a day for approximately six weeks (weather permitting).
This section of MD 140 will remain open with one lane in each direction and a turn lane for motorists traveling from northbound MD 140 to Painters Mill Road. SHA is replacing the culvert in coordination with a Baltimore County water line replacement on MD 140. During the next six weeks, SHA urges motorists to allow extra travel time and consider using I-795 between Owings Mills Boulevard and I-695 as an alternative route for through trips between Owings Mills and Pikesville.
This work is in advance of a larger roadway widening project on MD 140 between Garrison View Road and Painters Mill Road. The overall goal of the larger project is to widen Reisterstown Road to provide an extra travel lane and bicycle compatible shoulders. Click here for more details on the future larger improvements.
