(August 19, 2015) – It was last resurfaced a quarter of a century ago and crews are preparing to resurface MD 26 (Liberty Road) between MD 27 (Ridge Road) and MD 97 (New Washington Road) in Sykesville. The Maryland Department of Transportation’s State Highway Administration (SHA) recently began a $2.2 million project to resurface almost five miles of Liberty Road. Weather permitting; the project should be complete by mid-November.

SHA will patch, grind (remove the top layer of asphalt), resurface and restripe Liberty Road. SHA’s contractor, CJ Miller, LLC of Hampstead will work mostly at night from 9 p.m. until 5 a.m. Motorists should also expect periodic daytime single lane closures between 9 a.m. and 3 p.m. Crews will use flaggers to guide motorists through the work zone. Approximately 17,000 motorists use this section of MD 26 each day so drivers should plan extra travel time.

In addition to this project, drivers may also encounter mobile or short-term work zones. Always expect the unexpected, pay extra close attention and drive slowly through any work zone. Whether it’s a tree trimming operation or a bridge project, be aware when orange is there: Think Orange (the color of construction equipment and signs), stay alert and slow down.  Everyone is at risk.
