Work Scheduled to Begin Next Week; Motorists Should Expect Delays during Resurfacing

(September 19, 2008) – Beginning next Monday, the Maryland Department of Transportation’s State Highway Administration (SHA) will begin a $2.1 million project to resurface two separate sections along US 50 in Worcester County. Weather permitting, work will begin on Monday, September 22 and be complete by the late fall.

Beginning next week, SHA will resurface more than five miles along eastbound US 50 between the Wicomico County line and MD 346 (Old Ocean City Road) west of Berlin. This five mile resurfacing should be complete by the end of October. Immediately following, SHA will resurface approximately two miles along both eastbound and westbound US 50 between the Sinepuxent Bay and Herring Creek just west of Ocean City. This section should be complete by the end of November.

Motorists should expect single-lane closures along US 50 within the project limits between sunrise and sunset, Monday through Friday. SHA will use cones, barrels, and signs to guide motorists through the work zone. SHA awarded the contract to George and Lynch, Inc. of Dover, Delaware.

Motorists should expect delays through the work zone. SHA thanks motorists for their patience and cooperation.

Remember that work zones are not only large construction projects possibly taking years to complete, but smaller, mobile operations such as mowing, pothole repair and litter pick ups. When workers are on the road, THINK ORANGE: slow down, stay alert and expect the unexpected. Choose to make work zone safety your business at choosesafetyforlife.com.
