(June 12, 2015) – The Maryland Department of Transportation’s State Highway Administration (SHA) is improving pavement on 3.5 miles of MD 88 (Black Rock Road) between the Carroll County line and Mount Zion Road in northern Baltimore County. SHA’s contractor for the $1.3 million project, Gray and Son, Inc. of Timonium, will patch, mill (remove top layer of asphalt), resurface and apply new pavement markings to Black Rock Road.
Crews may close a single lane and will manage traffic with flagging operations between 9 a.m. and 3 p.m. Mondays through Fridays, and, if needed, between 6 a.m. and 2 p.m. Saturdays. Flagpersons will guide traffic through the highway work zone, which will be marked with temporary signs, cones and barrels. Motorists should also use caution while entering and exiting intersections and driveways.
Approximately 4,200 vehicles travel Black Rock Road each day. The pavement improvements will be complete early fall, weather permitting.
Citizens who have questions about paving on MD 88 or other State highways within Baltimore County may contact SHA’s District Four Office in Hunt Valley at 410-229-2300, toll-free at 1-866-998-0367 or by email:

In addition to this project, drivers may also encounter mobile or short-term work zones. Always expect the unexpected, pay extra close attention and drive slowly through any work zone. Whether it is a tree trimming operation or a bridge project, be aware when orange is there: Think Orange (the color of construction equipment and signs), stay alert and slow down. Everyone is at risk.
