Resurfacing and Safety Improvement Project to begin on or about September 25
(September 23, 2008) -- The Maryland State Highway Administration (SHA) is beginning a new project to improve sections of MD 588 (Golden Ring Road/Kenwood Avenue) between north of MD 7 (Philadelphia Road) and north of Lillian Holt Drive in the Rosedale community of Baltimore County. Weather permitting, the $1.4 million resurfacing and safety improvement project will begin on or about September 25 and will be complete summer 2009.
The MD 588 improvement project includes: utility relocation work; grinding and resurfacing of the existing roadway; full depth reconstruction of roadway sections; construction of new curb, gutter, and sidewalks; construction of ADA-compatible pedestrian ramps and storm drainage system improvements. The project also includes landscaping, installation of new traffic signs, pavement markings, replacement of utility manhole frames and covers and traffic signal improvements.
During construction, the majority of the work will be performed during daytime hours, with some work occurring at night. Temporary daytime lane closures may occur at any time between 9 a.m. and 3 p.m., Monday through Friday, with nighttime closures occurring between 8 p.m. and 5 a.m., Sunday through Thursday.
Crews will begin the project on the northbound side of Golden Ring Road west of MD 7 and proceed toward Lillian Holt Drive. During temporary lane closures and lane shifts, flagpersons will guide travelers through the work zone. Pedestrian traffic and driveway access will be maintained throughout the construction process.
Along with our contractor, American Infrastructure of Fallston, Maryland, SHA will make every effort to minimize disruptions to the public, and advises residents and business owners to plan ahead for extra travel time along Golden Ring Road and Kenwood Avenue, to watch ahead for crews and construction equipment in the work zone and to use alternate routes such as US 40 (Pulaski Highway).
Citizens with questions about the project may call SHA’s District Four Construction Section at 410-321-2820, toll-free at 1-800-962-3077 or by e-mail at SHADISTRICT4@sha.state.md.us.
This fall, SHA, county and contract crews will continue working along state and local roadways throughout Maryland. On any one day, there could be more than 350 work zones in effect. Remember that work zones are not only large construction projects possibly taking years to complete, but smaller, mobile operations such as mowing, pothole repair and litter pick ups. When workers are on the road, THINK ORANGE, which is the color of construction signs, barrels and warning devices. Please slow down, stay alert and expect the unexpected.
