Town of Bel Air to Host “Main Event” Town Street Festival; Festival Visitors Encouraged to Plan Ahead and Use Alternate Routes Including Hickory Avenue           
          
(September 26, 2008) – The State Highway Administration (SHA) and the Town of Bel Air SHA will temporarily close a section of MD 924 (Main Street) in Bel Air to all vehicles Saturday, September 27. Beginning at 8 a.m., Town of Bel Air Police will close Main Street between north of MD 22 (Fulford Avenue) and south of Lee Street. The road will remain closed to vehicular traffic until 8 p.m. Saturday.           
          
The Town of Bel Air and the Bel Air Downtown Alliance are hosting the “The Main Event” town street festival on Main Street between MD 22 (Fulford Avenue) and Lee Street in downtown Bel Air on Saturday. State, county and local officials will participate in the festival, which also marks the completion of SHA and the Town of Bel Air’s $8.8 million highway reconstruction, streetscape and water line replacement project between MD 22 (Fulford Avenue) and Gordon Street.           
          
The Town of Bel Air and SHA advise local residents and festival visitors to plan ahead for extra travel time in Bel Air on Saturday and to use alternative routes such as Hickory Avenue to reach the Town’s visitor parking areas. A local Parking Guide can be found on the Town’s website, www.belairmd.org/parking. In case of inclement weather, opening ceremony events at 11 a.m. will be held in the Bel Air Armory/Visitors Center on Main Street. Musical acts will move indoors to local restaurants and Main Street will be open to traffic.
