(March 20, 2015) – On a revised schedule, the State Highway Administration (SHA) will close the eastbound lane and alternate traffic on MD 331 (Dover Road) over the Choptank River for the next two weeks. Starting Monday, March 23 flaggers will direct alternating traffic from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m.

“We’re hoping the earlier schedule will relieve some of the congestion occurring during the normal rush hours of 7 to 9 a.m.,” said SHA District 2 Engineer Greg Holsey. “We appreciate motorists patience while we construct the new Dover Bridge.”

The lane closure will  allow the contractor to begin excavation at pier locations and to place staged embankments at the east approach to the bridge.

Lane closures may continue for up to three consecutive weeks, depending on the progress of this preliminary work. SHA will also use variable message signs, cones and barrels to help direct traffic through the work zone.

While SHA and its transportation partners work hard to maintain safe traffic mobility in work zones, each driver needs to actively modify his or her driving style to help prevent crashes.  Stay alert and look for reduced speed limits, narrow driving lanes and highway workers.  Slow down and don’t follow too closely.  Safer driving.  Safer Work Zones. For everyone!
