To prevent additional deterioration and erosion near the culvert, the work will consist of repairing concrete and installing rip rap (stabilizing rock). Crews will redirect westbound MD 832 traffic to MD 140 (Taneytown Pike) for approximately six weeks; the eastbound MD 832 travel lane will remain open to traffic.
The 1.5-mile detour will direct traffic to turn right onto Tyrone Road, turn left onto MD 140, then left onto Mayberry Road, and then turn right onto westbound MD 832. Portable electronic message signs, cones and barrels will guide drivers around the work zone.
Crews will maintain driveway access for residents along westbound MD 832 while work is underway. The six-week closure, near the 2700 block of Old Taneytown Road, will allow SHA’s contractor to work between 6 a.m. and 9 p.m. At times, the construction equipment will be noisy, especially during the start of work when crews remove and demolish parts of the structure.
All work is scheduled for completion by August 22 and is being performed under an areawide bridge maintenance contract awarded to PDI Sheetz of Linthicum, Md. SHA thanks area residents and travelers in advance for their patience during the roadwork.
