(February 5, 2014) – The Maryland State Highway Administration (SHA) advises motorists that MD 550 (Woodsboro Road) is closed at the bridge over Israel Creek near Woodsboro in Frederick County due to a traffic signal outage caused by high water.

A detour will direct traffic to use MD 26 (Liberty Road) and MD 194 (Woodsboro Pike) to bypass the area. Trucks should use the posted detour; other traffic may use local roads.

The MD 550 bridge has been reduced to a single lane due to construction, and the temporary traffic signal used to alternate traffic directions is not functional due to flooding. The road will remain closed until water recedes enough to repair the traffic signal. Following the temporary repair, SHA plans to raise the signal cabinet to prevent future issues at this location.
