Overnight Work Scheduled for St. Mary’s County Side of Bridge

(November 28, 2008) – The Maryland Department of Transportation’s State Highway Administration (SHA) will resurface the MD 4 (Patuxent Beach Road) approach to the south side (St. Mary’s County side) of the Thomas Johnson Bridge on December 3 and 4. This project will improve safety and ride conditions for motorists by re-establishing a smooth transition from the MD 4 asphalt roadway to the concrete and steel bridge structure.

All work will take place between the hours of 9 p.m. and 5 a.m. A single lane closure may be necessary, and a flagging operation will be in place both nights to help guide motorists through the work zone. Motorists will be alerted to the upcoming resurfacing work through the placement of variable message signs near both ends of the bridge on December 1.

With safety as its number one priority, the Maryland State Highway Administration is a proud partner of Choose Safety for Life, a campaign that provides one voice for drivers, motorists, pedestrians, bicyclists, motorcyclists and truckers. Virtually all traffic crash fatalities can be prevented if everyone practices these five key steps: B-SAFE – Buckle up, Slow down – speeding kills, Always drive sober, Focus, Everyone share the road.
