(January 22, 2013) – The State Highway Administration begins the next phase of drainage improvement work in Salisbury with the detour and closure of a one-block section of Isabella Street on Thursday, January 24.  Traffic on Isabella Street will be prohibited Monday through Friday from 7 a.m. to 5 p.m. from Mill Street to Park Avenue.  The daytime only detour will remain in effect for one month, weather permitting.

The temporary road closure will allow the contractor to install both a new water main and new storm drain along this section of Isabella Street. Access to residents and businesses on Isabella Street and access to Mill Street from US 50 will remain open.  SHA will use detour signs, cones and barrels to guide motorists through the work zone.

This section of work that is part of the first phase of drainage improvements scheduled to be completed in the Newtown Neighborhood by December 2013.  The second phase of the project includes installing new drainage pipes along both sides of US 13 Business north of London Avenue.  The entire project is scheduled for completion by December 2014.

SHA is working with the City of Salisbury to ensure minimal disruption of public utilities to property owners.

While SHA and its transportation partners work hard to maintain safe traffic mobility in work zones, each driver needs to actively modify his or her driving style to help prevent crashes. Stay alert and look for reduced speed limits, narrow driving lanes and highway workers.  Slow down and don’t follow too closely.   Safer driving. Safer work zones. For everyone!
