(January 3, 2013) – The State Highway Administration (SHA) will perform routine maintenance on the Dover Bridge over the Choptank River connecting Talbot and Caroline counties on Wednesday, January 9 between 9 a.m. and 3 p.m.  The work will require brief closures of the bridge to vehicular traffic that will last no longer than those needed for an average vessel to pass through the open swing span.

SHA’s contractor, Covington Machine and Welding, Inc. of Annapolis, will perform the inspection and work. The routine maintenance includes: greasing the bridge locks; testing the opening and closing the swing-draw; raising and lowering the traffic gates; checking all traffic and navigational lights; and checking all hydraulic oil levels for bridge motors. If inclement weather prevents the maintenance work as originally scheduled, it will be conducted the next business day.

While SHA and its transportation partners work hard to maintain safe traffic mobility in work zones, each driver needs to actively modify his or her driving style to help prevent crashes. Stay alert and look for reduced speed limits, narrow driving lanes and highway workers.  Slow down and don’t follow too closely.  Safer driving. Safer work zones. For everyone!
