(October 22, 2012) – Beginning Tuesday morning, October 23, the Maryland State Highway Administration (SHA) will mill (remove the top layer of pavement) and resurface approximately one mile of US 11 (Pennsylvania Avenue) north of Hagerstown, between Northern Avenue and Maugans Avenue. Weather permitting, the work will be complete by Friday, November 9.

The work will require lane shifts and single lane closures on weekdays between 7 a.m. and 4 p.m. The work will be completed during the day instead of at night because of the warm temperatures required for paving. SHA will use signs, cones and barrels to guide motorists through the work zone. Motorists should use caution and prepare for possible delays.

The work is being done by C. William Hetzer Inc. as part of an areawide paving contract. Anyone with questions about traffic on US 11 or other numbered routes in Washington County may call SHA’s District 6 Office at 301-729-8400.

While SHA and its partners work hard to maintain safe traffic mobility in work zones, each driver needs to actively modify his or her driving style to help prevent crashes. Stay alert – look for reduced speed limits, narrow driving lanes and highway workers. Slow down and don't follow too closely. Safer Driving. Safer Work Zones. For everyone!
