“LIKE” MARYLAND ROADS? NEW FACEBOOK PAGE SHARES MARYLAND HIGHWAY NEWS, FACTS AND FIGURES

(October 16, 2012) - The Maryland State Highway Administration’s (SHA) newly launched Facebook page offers customers an opportunity to interact with, and learn more about, SHA.

The new Facebook page features:
 
• SHA news updates
• A brief history of SHA
• Information about SHA services
• Access to SHA’s Customer Care Management System (CCMS)
• Photo albums and milestone information about many current SHA construction projects
• Emergency updates (weather/incidents) from SHA and other state agencies
• Valuable traffic safety reminders from SHA and other safety advocates

“The State Highway Administration’s number one priority is safety and we are pleased to share valuable safety messages with the public on the most popular social network in the world,” says Administrator Melinda B. Peters. “When you ‘like’ our Facebook page you can view photos and videos that share information about SHA services provided by our dedicated employees.  We encourage you to visit and provide feedback. ”

SHA maintains 5,200 miles of non-toll highways (16,000 miles when number of lanes are factored) and 2,500 bridges along Maryland’s numbered roads - interstates, US and state roads.  SHA serves every community in Maryland’s 23 counties and connects people to work, school, social and religious activities and recreation and tourist sites.  The highway system links locals roads, park and ride lots, the Port of Baltimore, BWI Thurgood Marshall Airport, transit centers and train stations and higher and bicyclist trails.

SHA maintains official accounts on other social networks including Twitter to enhance transparency and share information with the public.
