TRAFFIC ALERT – THREE PROJECTS THIS WEEKEND WITH LANE CLOSURES AND ANTICIPATED DELAYS

Anne Arundel County:

CONCRETE REPAIRS CONTINUE THIS WEEKEND ON SOUTHBOUND I-97 IN ANNE ARUNDEL COUNTY

MAJOR Delays Expected!; Motorists Encouraged to Use MD 295, I-95 and MD 10 as Alternates; Weekend Work Expected through Mid-November.

Weekend patching on I-97 in Anne Arundel County will continue through November as the Maryland State Highway Administration (SHA) works to complete concrete repairs before winter.

The work area stretches from I-695 (Baltimore Beltway) to just south of Benfield Boulevard along both north and southbound I-97.   SHA is asking motorists to consider alternate north-south routes such as I-95, MD 295 and MD 10 for their weekend travel through mid-November as major delays and traffic congestion are expected.

SHA will begin lane closures at 10 p.m. on Friday to remove damaged concrete from the patch areas.  New concrete will be placed and the lanes must remain closed until the concrete cures, generally up to 24 hours.  SHA will monitor the curing process and open lanes to traffic as soon as it is safe.  Because concrete patching is weather and time dependent, dates, times and locations are subject to change.  For the next two weekends, weather permitting:

September 28-30 – two left southbound lanes and left shoulder closed. Patching will occur in the southbound left and center lanes and left shoulder along southbound I-97 from MD 174 (Quarterfield Road) to just south of Benfield Blvd.

October 5-7 – two right southbound lanes closed.  Patching will occur in the southbound right lanes, including entrance/exit ramps on southbound I-97 from MD 176 (Dorsey Road) to just south of Benfield Blvd.

SHA TO REPAIR PAVEMENT ON I-95 IN SOUTHWESTERN BALTIMORE COUNTY ON WEEKNIGHTS

SHA Urges Motorists to Plan Ahead for Extra Travel Time or Use Alternative Routes; Work Begins this Sunday Night
(September 27, 2012) – The Maryland State Highway Administration (SHA) is beginning pavement repair work along I-95 in southwestern Baltimore County this Sunday night.  Crews will work along I-95 between the Howard/Baltimore County line and the Baltimore County/City line weeknights as temperatures permit through late fall.
SHA recommends that travelers plan ahead for extra travel time and anticipate late night travel delays.

Single lane closures along I-95 may begin at 7 p.m., with double lane closures beginning at 9 p.m. and ending by 5 a.m. the next morning.  When necessary, triple lane closures may occur between midnight and 4 a.m.

During pavement repair work, crews will patch sections of damaged pavement along I-95 and will resurface lanes approaching the bridges carrying I-95 over the following: Patapsco River (Baltimore County side); I-195 (Metropolitan Boulevard); Oakland Road; Carville and Oregon avenues; US 1 (Southwestern Boulevard), AMTRAK/MARC, and Potomac Avenue; Sulphur Spring Road; and I-695 (Baltimore Beltway) mainline and interchange ramps.

Crews will begin on northbound I-95 at the Howard County line and proceed north toward Baltimore City.  Once the work is complete on northbound I-95 crews will begin work on the south side.  If temperatures do not permit work in late fall and winter, crews will temporarily shut down for the winter and resume work next spring.
