(August 9, 2012) – Starting Monday, Aug. 13, the Maryland State Highway Administration (SHA) will mill (remove top layer), resurface and restripe approximately 5.5 miles of southbound US 15 (Catoctin Mountain Highway) in the Thurmont area. The work is expected to be complete within two months, weather permitting.

The area on US 15 to be resurfaced is from Roddy Road, north of Thurmont, to the pedestrian bridge that carries Catoctin Furnace Trail over US 15, between Cunningham Falls State Park and the Catoctin Iron Furnace, south of Thurmont.
Motorists should anticipate single-lane closures and anticipate delays between 9 a.m. and dusk, Monday through Friday.  SHA will use signs, cones and barrels to guide motorists through the work zone.

Once the project is complete, the daily average of more than 16,000 drivers will travel on a smoother, safer pavement surfurce with fresh, bright lines. SHA awarded the $2 million contract to C.J. Miller, LLC, of Hampstead, MD. While SHA and its partners work hard to maintain safe traffic mobility in work zones, each driver needs to actively modify his or her driving style to help prevent crashes.
