(July 26, 2012) - The Maryland State Highway Administration (SHA) is temporarily closing two of three lanes along southbound I-795 (Northwest Expressway) between Owings Mills Boulevard (MD 940) and I-695 (Baltimore Beltway) this weekend for concrete pavement patching work.

Contractor crews will close the right lane of southbound I-795 beginning 9 p.m. Friday, July 27, and will close the middle lane at 10 p.m.  The left lane will remain open to traffic.  The temporary double lane closure will remain in effect until 5 a.m. Monday, July 30.

Crews will be in the work zone at various times throughout the weekend to pour and set sections of concrete pavement.  Even though crews may not be present, sections of concrete pavement will be closed until the concrete is cured and declared safe for travel.  Maryland State Police will patrol the work zone this weekend.

The work is part of SHA’s ongoing $3.8 million project to repair pavement along I-795 between I-695 and the CSX overpass in Owings Mills.  The project began spring 2012 and will be complete fall 2013, weather permitting.

Citizens with questions about the project may contact SHA’s District 4 Office - Construction Division at 410-229-2420, toll-free at 1-866-998-0367 or by email: shadistrict4@sha.state.md.us.  Follow SHA on Twitter @MDSHA.

While SHA and its transportation partners work hard to maintain safe traffic mobility in work zones, each driver needs to actively modify his or her driving style to help prevent crashes. Stay alert and look for reduced speed limits, narrow driving lanes and highway workers.  Slow down and don’t follow too closely.   Safer driving and safer work zones benefit everyone!
