(July 5, 2012) – Starting Monday, July 9 the State Highway Administration (SHA) will begin paving a four mile section of westbound US 50 in Talbot County as part of several resurfacing projects this summer on Maryland’s Eastern Shore.  The overlay project will be complete in early September, weather permitting.

Crews will start the resurfacing project on US 50 just north of the Choptank River Bridge (Dorchester/Talbot County line) and continue along the westbound lanes of US 50 for four miles to just south of MD 565 (Main Street) in Trappe.  During construction, crews will implement single lane closures Monday through Friday from 6 a.m. to 6 p.m.

SHA’s contractor for the $1.8 million project is David A. Bramble of Chestertown.  The contractor will use variable message boards, temporary signs, cones and barrels to guide motorists through the work zone.

While SHA and its transportation partners work hard to maintain safe traffic mobility in work zones, each driver needs to actively modify his or her driving style to help prevent crashes. Stay alert and look for reduced speed limits, narrow driving lanes and highway workers.  Slow down and don’t follow too closely.   Saver driving and safer work zones benefit everyone.
