(June 13, 2012) – Beginning 7 p.m., Friday, June 15, Baltimore Gas and Electric Company (BGE) and the Maryland State Highway Administration (SHA) will close the  ramp from northbound I-695  (Inner Loop) to westbound Security Boulevard  (MD 122, Exit 17) for  two weekends.  The weekend ramp closures and detours will allow BGE crews to safely excavate pavement in the ramp area and repair a major gas line underneath the ramp.

The ramp closure will be in effect between 7 p.m. Friday, June 15 and 5 a.m. Monday, June 18 and again between 7 p.m. Friday, June 22 and 5 a.m. Monday, June 25 or until maintenance on the gas line and ramp pavement is complete.  Motorists traveling from the inner loop of I-695  to westbound Security Boulevard  will be directed to the following detour:  turn right onto ramp to eastbound Security Boulevard; turn left onto Woodlawn Drive, turn left onto Whitehead Road and then turn right onto westbound Security Boulevard.

SHA recommends that motorists traveling on northbound I-695 to Security Square Mall and other destinations on Security Boulevard west of I-695 on the weekends should anticipate delays and plan ahead for extra travel time.  For more information about the BGE gas utility work, citizens may contact BGE toll-free at 1-800-685-0123.

While SHA and its private industry partners work hard to maintain safe traffic mobility in utility work zones, each driver needs to actively modify his or her driving style to help prevent crashes. Stay alert - look for reduced speed limits, narrow driving lanes and highway workers.  Slow down and don't follow too closely.  Safer Driving. Safer Work Zones.  For everyone!
