(May 29, 2012) –This week, the Maryland State Highway Administration (SHA) will begin a project to replace a culvert on MD 147 (Harford Road) over a tributary to the Little Gunpowder Falls in Kingsville.   Weather permitting, the $163,000 project will be complete by mid-August. 

The project includes removing an existing box culvert under Harford Road and widening a second culvert underneath Harford Road.  Crews will remove one box culvert, construct a new pipe run, construct a new drainage ditch along the road and reconstruct the pavement over the newly widened box culvert. 

There will be single lane closures and flagging operations to control traffic flow along Harford Road  to ensure the safety of travelers and construction crews.  Single lane closures and flagging operations may occur along Harford Road in the vicinity of the State Park daily between 9 a.m. and 3 p.m. Monday through Friday and nightly between 8 p.m. and 5 a.m. the next day, Sunday through Thursday.   SHA advises motorists to plan ahead for extra travel time and look ahead for flagging operations while traveling on Harford Road between the communities of Fork and Fallston.

While SHA and its transportation partners work hard to maintain safe traffic mobility in work zones, each driver needs to actively modify his or her driving style to help prevent crashes. Stay alert and look for reduced speed limits, narrow driving lanes and highway workers.  Slow down and don’t follow too closely.   Safer driving and safer work zones benefit everyone.
