WHAT: 

Single lane closure, traffic shift and placement of concrete barrier wall on MD 710 (Ordnance Road) at the entrance to the Vehicle Emissions Inspection Program (VEIP) facility.

WHERE: 

MD 710 between MD 10 (Arundel Expressway) and MD 173 (Pennington Avenue) near Glen Burnie and Curtis Bay.

WHEN: 

Monday, April 30 through Friday, May 4, from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. each day.

WHY: 

Because MD 710 is a detour route for the Maryland Department of Transportation Authority (MDTA) work on the I-695 drawbridge over Curtis Creek, heavy traffic may occur on Ordnance Road during the week of April 30.  SHA and MDTA are urging motorists to use alternate routes.  Motorists traveling MD 10 north to I-695 east (outer loop) are encouraged to continue past the MD 710 exit and follow the signed detour route, I-695 west (inner loop) to southbound MD 648 to eastbound I-695.

 

The Ordnance Road lane shift is necessary to establish a work zone behind barrier wall for the addition of a left turn lane at the VEIP entrance and an acceleration lane at the U.S. Army Reserve Center entrance.  As crews strive to keep work zones safe, each driver needs to actively modify his or her driving style to help prevent crashes. Stay alert – look for reduced speed limits, narrow driving lanes and highway workers. Slow down and don’t follow too closely. Safer Driving. Safer Work Zones. For everyone.
