SHA CLOSES I-495 OVERNIGHT THIS WEEKEND FOR KENILWORTH AVENUE BRIDGE PROJECT

(April 20, 2012) – Tonight, April 20 and Saturday night, April 21, the Maryland State Highway Administration (SHA) will close lanes on I-95/I-495 (Capital Beltway) at MD 201 (Kenilworth Avenue) to install new steel beams for the MD 201 bridge over I-495/I-95 in Greenbelt. Weather permitting, all lanes should be open by 8 a.m.

Tonight, SHA will close one lane in both directions of I-95/I-495 at 7 p.m., then two lanes at      9 p.m. and three lanes of I-95/I-495 at 10 p.m. To install the steel beams, total closures of up to 30 minutes will take place in all lanes of southbound I-95/I-495 between 12 midnight and 6 a.m.

SHA will also close the southbound MD 201 ramp to southbound I-95/I-495 on Friday night at 11 p.m. and reopen the ramp by 8 a.m. Saturday morning. 

On Saturday night, SHA will close one northbound lane of I-95/I-495 at 7 p.m., then two lanes at 9 p.m. and three lanes of northbound I-95/I-495 at 10 p.m.

SHA will also intermittently close one lane in both directions of I-95/I-495 at 7 p.m., then two lanes at 9 p.m. and three lanes of I-95/I-495 at 10 p.m. nightly until 5 a.m. through mid-June.  Weather permitting, the project will be complete in fall 2012.
