(April 9, 2012) – The Maryland State Highway Administration (SHA) advises motorists of upcoming nighttime lane closures along MD 355 (Rockville Pike) north of Jones Bridge Road in Bethesda.

Weeknights beginning tonight, crews will close up to two lanes of northbound MD 355 between 8 p.m. and 7 a.m.  Northbound single lane closures will begin at 8 p.m. and double lane closures will begin at 10 p.m.  A southbound single lane closure will begin at 9 p.m. with the southbound lane open by 5 a.m. each morning.  Work will occur between Cedar Lane and Jones Bridge Road, and will affect approximately one-quarter mile of MD 355.

Work includes testing, removing and installing sections of underground pipe, elevating and installing manholes, and pouring and curing concrete pads within the work zone.  Some of the operations involve using jackhammers and other equipment that will produce noisy conditions. This phase of work is expected to be complete late spring.

All repairs are being performed as part of the $9 million advanced utility project for the MD 355/Cedar Lane intersection.  SHA issued the contract to Fort Myer Construction Company of Washington, DC.

SHA reminds all drivers to buckle up, obey posted speed limits, think orange, and stay alert.  Customers who have questions about traffic operations along MD 355 or other State numbered routes in Montgomery County may call SHA’s District 3 Office at 301-513-7300 or via e-mail at shadistrict3@sha.state.md.us.
