(April 2, 2012) – Drivers who live, work and visit Talbot County will soon travel on smoother and safer roadways.  The State Highway Administration (SHA) is resurfacing three sections of roadways in Talbot County beginning next week.  Weather permitting, nearly $1.5 million of work will be complete by the end of June.

SHA will grind, patch, resurface and install new pavement markings on sections of MD 579, MD 303 and MD 662.  The roadways to be resurfaced include:

• MD 579 (Bozman Neavitt Road) between MD 33 (North Claibourne Road) and Ruby Harrison Road in St. Michael’s (three miles - $649,000);

• MD 303 (Lewistown Road) between MD 309 (Cordova Road) and the Queen Anne’s County Line in Cordova (approximately four miles - $530,000); and

• MD 662 (Centreville Road) between MD 322 (Easton Bypass) and Airport Road in Easton (nearly two miles – $269,000).

SHA awarded the projects to George and Lynch, Inc., of Dover, Del.  Lane closures are possible on all three projects Mondays through Fridays from 7 a.m. to 5 p.m.  SHA will use variable message boards, temporary signs, cones and barrels, along with flagging operations to guide motorists through the work zone.

While SHA and its transportation partners work hard to maintain safe traffic mobility in work zones, each driver needs to actively modify his or her driving style to help prevent crashes. Stay alert and look for reduced speed limits, narrow driving lanes and highway workers.  Slow down and don’t follow too closely.  Safer driving. Safer work zones. For everyone.
