(October 21, 2011) – Starting Monday, October 31 the Maryland State Highway Administration (SHA) will repair and fill several small depressions along MD 27 (Ridge Road) just north of Old Westminster Road in Carroll County.  Weather permitting, crews will begin work after the morning commute.

SHA maintenance crews discovered a slight depression along the SHA right-of-way near MD 27 while performing routine work last month.  After evaluating the depression, SHA engineers and geologists determined several small sinkholes have formed in this area.

“SHA crews will pump grout and backfill these areas as a precaution,” said SHA District 7 Engineer Dave Coyne.  “Crews will also repair a small section of MD 27 to ensure  the roadbed remains in stable condition.”

Drivers should expect daily single lane closures on MD 27 between Old Westminster Road and Spring Mills Road from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Monday through Friday.  Flagpersons, temporary signs and barrels will guide motorists through the work zone.   More than 10,000 vehicles travel along this section of MD 27 each day.  The $125,000 project should be complete by early November.
