(June 18, 2009) - As part of the Maryland State Highway Administration’s (SHA) Intercounty Connector (ICC) construction project, crews will shift lanes along Redland Road, south of Muncaster Mill Road, beginning at noon on Saturday, June 20, weather permitting. The shift should be in place by 6 p.m.

Motorists along Redland Road will be shifted to the permanent alignment of the ICC, traveling south from Muncaster Mill Road onto the bridge over the future ICC. Approximately 150 feet south of the bridge, lanes will narrow and shift slightly west to facilitate reconstruction of the Shady Grove Presbyterian Church parking lot and construction of the remainder of Redland Road.

The work is part of ICC Contract A from I-370 to east of MD 97 (Georgia Avenue). As of June 1, Contract A is 45 percent complete and scheduled to open late 2010/early 2011.

The $475 million Contract A was awarded to Intercounty Constructors, a Joint Venture of Granite Construction of Watsonville, CA, Corman Construction of Annapolis Junction, MD and G.A & F.C. Wagman of York, PA. For more information about the project, citizens may call the ICC Community Outreach staff at 1-866-462-0020 or visit the website at www.iccproject.com .

Concrete barriers, temporary crash cushions, barrels, temporary traffic signs and variable message boards will alert and guide motorists through the work zone. SHA reminds motorists to Choose Safety for Life and “Think Orange” as they drive through the work zone, reduce speeds and be attentive.
