Motorists Can Expect Periodic Drawbridge Openings, Temporary Traffic Stops
(May 15, 2023) – The Maryland Department of Transportation State Highway Administration will perform routine maintenance overnight Thursday, May 18, on the Woodrow Wilson Bridge (I-95/I-495/Capital Beltway) in Prince George’s County. The work is expected to be complete by 5 a.m. Friday, May 19, weather permitting. The routine maintenance is necessary to continue the safe and reliable operation of the drawbridge.
Starting at 11 p.m. Thursday, the work will require brief periodic openings of the drawbridge, resulting in full temporary traffic stops in both directions on the bridge. These stops are expected to be 15 to 20 minutes in length and will occur several times overnight.
Motorists are advised to add extra driving time overnight to account for delays during the test opening periods. The State Highway Administration understands this work can be an inconvenience, and asks all motorists to please stay alert and be patient as they pass through the work zone.
