Overnight Project Will Continue Through June; Work Includes Patching and Resurfacing Across Three Miles
(March 31, 2022) – The Maryland Department of Transportation State Highway Administration (MDOT SHA) will begin a project to improve the driving surface and enhance safety on MD 97 (New Washington Road) in Westminster, Carroll County, on Sunday, April 3.
Starting Sunday night, crews will work overnight, 8 p.m. to 5 a.m. Sunday nights through Friday mornings, between MD 140 (Baltimore Boulevard) and the Fenby Park and Ride located just south of MD 32 (Sykesville Road). The project is expected to complete in June.
Crews will remove the top layer of the roadway, patch potholes to smooth out the road surface, and add a new layer of asphalt across three miles. There will also be daytime work on weekdays, from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Motorists can expect a single lane closure and flagging operation during the project so crews can safely complete the work.
The contractor, C.J. Miller, Inc. based in Hampstead, will use signs, cones, electronic arrow boards and a truck mounted attenuator (TMA) to alert and guide motorists through the work zone
MDOT SHA works hard to maintain safe traffic mobility in work zones for our crews as well as our customers. Drivers need to stay alert, focus on driving and, look for reduced speed limits, as well as other driving pattern changes. Drive like you work here and slow down in construction zones.
Motorists in need may dial #77 on their mobile device for roadside assistance.
