Standard Pavement Sections for Routine Site Access Improvements Only

Note: Refer to the Access Manual 5.8.2 for limitations in applicability of these paving sections. The latest Standard and Supplemental Specifications and Provisions apply.

Light Duty Pavement Sections

Functional Classification: Collector or lower AND ADT: 10,000 or less

A	1.5” Superpave Asphalt Mix 9.5mm for Surface – PG 64S-22, Level 2 6” Superpave Asphalt Mix 19.0mm for Base – PG 64S-22, Level 2 (Two 3” lifts) 6” Graded Aggregate Base or 12” Capping Borrow
B	7” Portland Cement Concrete Mix #7 6” Graded Aggregate Base or 12” Capping Borrow Refer to Std. No. MD 577.07 for joints. No steel is required.

Moderate Duty Pavement Sections

Functional Classification: Minor Arterial OR ADT: 10,000 to 30,000

C	2” Superpave Asphalt Mix 12.5mm for Surface – PG 64S-22, Level 2 7” Superpave Asphalt Mix 19.0mm for Base – PG 64S-22, Level 2 (2 – 3.5” lifts) 6” Graded Aggregate Base or 12” Capping Borrow
D	8” Portland Cement Concrete Mix #7 6” Graded Aggregate Base or 12” Capping Borrow Refer to Std. No. MD 577.07 for joints. Refer to Std. Nos. 572.21, 572.61, and 572.61-01 for steel requirements.

Heavy Duty Pavement Sections

Functional Classification: Principal Arterial OR ADT: 30,000 or greater

E	2” Superpave Asphalt Mix 12.5mm for Surface – PG 64S-22, Level 2 8” Superpave Asphalt Mix 19.0mm for Base – PG 64S-22, Level 2 (2 – 4” lifts) 6” Graded Aggregate Base or 12” Capping Borrow
F	9” Portland Cement Concrete Mix #7 6” Graded Aggregate Base or 12” Capping Borrow Refer to Std. No. MD 577.07 for joints. Refer to Std. Nos. 572.21, 572.61, and 572.61-01 for steel requirements.

Miscellaneous Pavement Specifications

Concrete Entrances	Refer to Std. Nos. MD 630.01, 630.02, and 630.03
Temporary Stabilized Construction Entrances	8” of 2” (nominal) stone, or reclaimed/recycled concrete equivalent, placed on filter cloth.
Overlay	Superpave Asphalt Mix 9.5mm – PG 64S-22, Level 2 for 1.5” overlays Superpave Asphalt Mix 12.5mm – PG 64S-22, Level 2 for 2” overlays Match the surface course specified for the adjacent full-depth paving if different from the above.
Wedge/Level Course	Superpave Asphalt Mix 9.5mm – PG 64S-22, Level 2 for lifts up to 2” Superpave Asphalt Mix 19.0mm – PG 64S-22, Level 2 for lifts thicker than 2”
