Culvert Installation Work is Completed; Daytime Flagging Operation Scheduled for Remaining Construction Work
(September 23, 2026) – The Maryland Department of Transportation State Highway Administration reopened lanes at the MD 225 (Hawthorne Road) Culvert Replacement Project in Charles County this afternoon, Thursday September 23.
The area between the Indian Head Rail Trail and the MD 225 / MD 224 (Livingston Road) intersection is still an active construction work zone. Crews will direct traffic using a flagging operation from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m., Monday through Friday for the next several weeks. Drivers should also expect periodic nighttime lane shifts or flagging operations as needed.
Remaining construction activities include pavement resurfacing, landscaping, removal of detour signage and temporary pavement markings, barrier wall and equipment removal and other contract closeout items. SHA and its contractor – FLB Contractors Inc. of Clinton – are working toward complete project completion this fall, weather permitting.
