Motorists Should Expect Delays During Work Hours

(June 12, 2026) – The Maryland Department of Transportation State Highway Administration will begin a resurfacing project on MD 822 (University Boulevard) between US 13 (Ocean Highway) and Backbone Road in Somerset County on Tuesday, June 16.  The work should be completed by June 30, weather permitting.

Drivers can expect daytime single-lane closures Mondays through Fridays from 7 a.m. to 6 p.m. as crews begin the milling and resurfacing operations.  During work hours, motorists can also expect some detours when entering MD 822 from US 13.

The State Highway Administration’s contractor, George and Lynch, Inc. of Dover, DE will use signs, cones, and flaggers to safely guide motorists through the work zone.  The single lane closures will be in place until the project has been completed.

The State Highway Administration is Serious About Safety. Motorists are urged to remain alert and avoid distractions when traveling through the work zone. Motorists should obey all posted speed limits. Motorists can dial #77 on their mobile devices for roadside assistance.
