Continuous Weekend Lane Closures Begin 9 p.m. Friday Night, May 8

(May 6, 2026) – The Maryland Department of Transportation State Highway Administration will perform concrete pavement reconstruction at the southbound MD 3 (Crain Highway) / Cronson Boulevard intersection starting 9 p.m. Friday night, May 8.

The concrete work will take place each weekend in phases through early June or until complete (with the exception of the Memorial Day weekend). Permitted work hours and lane closures are scheduled 9 p.m. Friday night through 5 a.m. Monday morning, weather permitting.

SHA will close lanes as needed to safely remove the deteriorated sections and pour new concrete. Lanes will remain closed as the newly poured concrete cures before opening lanes to traffic.

The first weekend of work will require closing the southbound MD 3 left turn lane and far left through lane approaching Cronson Boulevard. Crews will also close the median crossover, restricting left-turns from northbound MD 3. Drivers will be guided along a signed detour.

SHA advises drivers to plan additional time or use alternate north-south routes to include MD 424 (Davidsonville Road) and Interstate 97 to reach area destinations. SHA aims to keep at least one lane open along southbound MD 3 each weekend while this work is underway.

Customers may contact the SHA District 5 Office at 410-841-1000 or [email protected] with any questions. Contractor DIR Construction Inc. of Laurel will use portable variable message signs, barrels, and temporary traffic signs to guide drivers through the work zone.

The State Highway Administration is Serious About Safety.  Pedestrians and motorists are urged to remain alert and avoid distractions when traveling through the work zone. Motorists should obey all posted speed limits. Motorists can dial #77 on their mobile devices for roadside assistance.
