​Drivers Should Plan Extra Travel Time During Repair Work 

(April 14, 2026) – The Maryland Department of Transportation State Highway Administration will begin a project to install new gas service and perform priority utility repairs on East West Highway in Riverdale. Two lanes at a time crossing East West Highway and one sidewalk Eastbound on East West Highway will be closed from April 14 through May 14. Work will be completed overnight Sunday through Thursday from 9 p.m. to 5:30 a.m., weather permitting.

The work includes Washington Gas installing new gas service for a business at 4415 East West Highway.

The State Highway Administration’s contractor, Fergerson Trenching Company, of Odenton, MD will use concrete barriers, electronic message signs, cones, and barrels to guide drivers safely through the work zone.

The State Highway Administration is Serious About Safety. Pedestrians and motorists are urged to remain alert and avoid distractions when traveling through the work zone. Motorists should obey all posted speed limits. Motorists can dial #77 on their mobile devices for roadside assistance. ​
