(March 16, 2026) – The Maryland Department of Transportation State Highway Administration will be setting structural steel on the I-70 bridges over US 11 (Virginia Avenue) near Hagerstown beginning on March 19.

Beginning Thursday at 7 p.m., crews will close a single-lane on westbound I-70 over US 11. On Friday evening, March 20, there will be a single-lane closure on eastbound I-70. There will also be a single-lane closure with a flagging operation both nights on US 11 under I-70. All lanes will reopen by 6 a.m. each morning, weather permitting.

The work is part of a roadway and bridge improvement project that includes six bridges. The entire project is anticipated to be completed in Fall 2027, weather permitting.

The State Highway Administration’s contractor for the project is Triton Construction, Inc of St. Albans, WV. Crews will use message boards, signs and barrels to navigate motorists through the work zone.
