Expect Weekday Lane Closures for New Traffic Signal System and Paving Work
(November 18, 2025) – The Maryland Department of Transportation State Highway Administration began a new project to improve intersection safety on US 1 (Belair Road) at Reckord Road in Harford County. The work, which includes upgrading the existing flashing traffic signal to a full-time traffic signal, began on Monday, November 17. The project should be completed in early winter 2026, weather permitting.
Contractor crews are installing the new traffic signal system and resurfacing the east leg of Reckord Road intersection at northbound US 1. Once that work is complete, the new traffic signal system will be activated to partial operation and then activated to full operation on all four legs of the intersection.
Contractor crews will work along US 1 on weekdays, 9 a.m.-3 p.m. During work hours, motorists can expect single-lane closures along US 1 in the vicinity of the Reckord Road intersection. Contractor crews will use temporary traffic signs and cones to guide motorists through the work zone.
The State Highway Administrator’s contractor for the $1 million project is Concrete General, Inc. of Gaithersburg.
