10-Mile Project Requires a Single-Lane Closure During Overnight Work Hours

April 16, 2025) – The Maryland State Highway Administration is permitting fiber optic cable work along I-270 between the Montgomery County line (north of MD 109) and I-70 in Frederick County, a span of 10 miles. Starting tonight, April 16 at 9 p.m., one travel lane will close on northbound I-270 just north of MD 109 (Old Hundred Road).

A contractor crew working on behalf of Quantum Corporation will install and perform maintenance on fiber optic cables located underground along I-270. The schedule is Sunday through Thursday from 9 p.m. to 5 a.m. the following day. When work is complete on northbound I-270 at I-70, crews will switch to southbound I-270 for the same work. The project is expected to take two months to complete.

The State Highway Administration works hard to maintain safe traffic mobility in work zones for our crews as well as our customers. Drivers need to stay alert, focus on driving, and look for reduced speed limits as well as other traffic pattern changes.
