Weekend Project Requires Single-Lane Closure on Southbound US 1; Additional Work Scheduled on Northbound US 1 Next Weekend
(November 14, 2024) - The Maryland Department of Transportation State Highway Administration will improve drainage under
US 1 (Washington Blvd) at the Whiskey Bottom Road intersection in Laurel, Howard County. The aging drainage system will be removed and replaced over two weekends, weather permitting.
Starting 9 p.m. Friday, November 15, one southbound lane on US 1 through the intersection will close for repairs. The work will continue overnight and through the weekend until completion which is expected no later than 5 a.m. Monday, November 18.
The second piece of infrastructure on northbound US 1 will be replaced the following weekend starting at 9 p.m. Friday, November 22. One northbound lane will close until the work is completed no later than 5 a.m. Monday, November 25.

The State Highway Administration will use electronic signs, barrels and cones to alert motorists about the work zone and lane closures.
The State Highway Administration maintains safety in work zones for our crews as well as motorists. Drivers need to stay alert, stay focused, look for reduced speed limits as well as driving pattern changes, and slow down in construction zones.
