Overnight Southbound MD 2 Ramp Closure Scheduled Thursday Night, Oct. 10

(October 9, 2024) – The Maryland Department of Transportation State Highway Administration will apply a new surface treatment to enhance pavement friction on the southbound MD 2 (Solomons Island Road) ramp to westbound MD 665 (Aris T. Allen Boulevard) on Thursday night, October 10. The ramp will reopen no later than 5 a.m. Friday morning, weather permitting.

To accomplish the pavement treatment project, crews will temporarily close and detour the southbound MD 2 (Solomons Island Road) ramp to westbound MD 665 (Aris T. Allen Boulevard).  The ramp will close 9 p.m. and drivers will be directed along southbound MD 2, then to make a U-turn at the Grand Oaks Drive intersection, then to northbound MD 2 to reach westbound MD 665.

State Highway Administration contractor Skidabrader of San Diego, Ca. will use portable variable message signs and barrels to guide drivers along the signed detour as crews apply an innovative friction surface treatment.

Surface abrasion treatment involves the application of very high-quality aggregate to the pavement using a polymer binder to restore and/or maintain pavement friction at existing or potentially high crash areas. The higher pavement friction helps motorists maintain better control in both dry and wet driving conditions.
