Motorists Should Expect Detour When Closure Begins Friday Evening, September 6

(August 29, 2024) – The Maryland Department of Transportation State Highway Administration is temporarily closing the westbound I-695 (inner loop of the Baltimore Beltway) ramp to southbound I-97 (Exit 4) for concrete patching in northern Anne Arundel County for two weekends in September. The ramp will reopen no later than 5 a.m. each Monday. The work is weather permitting.

The weekend I-695 ramp closure is scheduled for September 6 – 9 and September 13 – 16; crews will close the ramp 9 p.m. Friday evening and open to traffic no later than 5 a.m. Monday morning.

Portable variable message and temporary traffic signs will guide drivers along a signed detour. Drivers will be directed to continue along westbound I-695 to southbound MD 295 (Baltimore-Washington Parkway), then to eastbound I-695 to reach the two-lane southbound I-97 ramp.

The system preservation work is part of the State Highway Administration’s I-97 concrete patching construction contract that will be completed this fall. All work is weather permitting.

Drivers are reminded to remain alert and reduce speeds when traveling through the work zone. Customers who have questions may contact the District 5 office at 410-841-1000 or toll-free at 1-800-331-5603.
