Requesting Feedback for Downtown La Plata Improvements

(June 11, 2024) – The Maryland Department of Transportation State Highway Administration, in collaboration with the Town of La Plata, will host a public open house, 5-7 p.m. Monday, June 17, for the MD 6 La Plata Community Safety and Enhancement Streetscape Project in Charles County. The open house will be held at La Plata Town Hall, 305 Queen Anne St., La Plata.

State Highway Administration representatives will share the project design, which incorporates feedback gathered at the last open house, and will seek additional community input and outline next steps in the project development. The purpose of this project is to address safety and accessibility needs along MD 6 from US 301 to Willow Lane while improving access to businesses, health care and other services within the project limits.

There will be no formal presentation at the public open house. Attendees may arrive at any time during the open house hours and walk through the display area. State Highway staff will be on- hand to answer project-related questions and listen to feedback.

With help from stakeholders, multi-modal transportation needs will be identified and be used to guide the development of improvements along Charles Street – otherwise known as La Plata’s Main Street. Additionally, landscape treatments will be added to enhance the character of downtown La Plata.

More details on the MD 6 La Plata Community Safety and Enhancement Streetscape Project can be found on the Project Portal page. Information presented on June 17 will be posted on the Project Portal page the day after the event.
