Through September, Motorists Can Expect Short-Term Detours of MD 346

(June 4, 2024) The Maryland Department of Transportation State Highway Administration will begin to replace an underground pipe on MD 346 (Old Ocean City Road) in Whaleyville  on Monday, June 10.  Weather permitting, this project is anticipated to be completed by September.

To complete this pipe replacement, crews will need to close MD 346 from east of MD 610 (Whaleyville Road) to west of Hall Road. Local traffic will be permitted in this area.

SHA’s contractor, ANA General Contractors LLC of Laurel, an MDOT-certified Minority Business Enterprise, will use reflective barrels, temporary traffic signs and VMS boards to detour traffic around the project limits.

Motorists will be directed to the following detour route:

  • MD 346 eastbound traffic: Turn right onto MD 610 (Whaleyville Road), left onto US 50 East (Ocean Gateway) and then turn left onto MD 346 West.
  • MD 346 westbound traffic: Continue on US 50 (Ocean Gateway) then turn right onto MD 610 (Whaleyville Road).

The State Highway Administration understands detours and roadwork can be an inconvenience for some motorists but is necessary to maintain a safe and reliable transportation system. Motorists in need may dial #77 on their mobile devices for roadside assistance.
