Motorists Should Expect Lane Closures in Both Directions for Pavement Work

(July 19, 2023) – The Maryland Department of Transportation State Highway Administration is underway with a project to improve the pavement on US 50 (John Hanson Highway) between I-95/I-495 (Capital Beltway) and the Washington D.C. line which began the week of June 26. Weather permitting, all work will be completed by late summer 2023.

Crews will mill, pave, and restripe the lanes and shoulders of US 50. Drivers can expect single- and double-lane closures in both directions of US 50 between I-95 and MD 410 (East West Highway) from 8 p.m.-5 a.m. Sundays through Thursdays.

The State Highway Administration’s contractor, Allan Meyers of Fallston, will use arrow boards, cones, and barrels to safely guide motorists through the work zone. Motorcycles should use extra caution for uneven pavement during milling operations.

The State Highway Administration understands lane closures can be an inconvenience, but the work is necessary to ensure a safe and reliable transportation system. Motorists are asked to reduce speeds approaching and while in active work zones.

Customers who have questions may contact the District 3 Office at 301-513-7300 or toll-free at 1-800-749-0737.
