Drivers Can Expect Single-Lane Closures and Flagging Operation July 10-13; Work is Part of Recent Bridge Replacement Project

(July 7, 2023) – The Maryland Department of Transportation State Highway Administration will begin a project Monday, July 10, to resurface one-half mile of northbound US 15 (Catoctin Mountain Highway) between the MD 806 (Catoctin Furnace Road) ramp to US 15 and MD 77 (W. Main Street) in Thurmont. The project is expected to be complete Thursday, July 13, weather permitting.

During the work, drivers can expect daily daytime and nighttime signal-lane closures on northbound US 15 between 3 a.m. and 3 p.m. Crews will remove the top layer of asphalt (milling), pave and restripe the main lines and shoulders on northbound US 15, including the bridge approaches to the newly constructed northbound US 15 bridge over MD 77 (West Main Street) and Hunting Creek.

Contractor Clearwater Construction Inc., of Cranberry Township, Pa., will use signs, arrow boards, cones and barrels to safely guide motorists through the work zone. Drivers need to stay alert, focus on driving, and look for reduced speed limits, as well as other driving pattern changes. Motorcycles should expect uneven pavement during resurfacing. The State Highway Administration understands lane closures associated with road construction may be an inconvenience, but the work is necessary to maintain a world-class transportation system.
