From July 10 through July 14, a section of US 219 in the work zone will be reduced to one lane and controlled by a temporary traffic signal that will alternate traffic in a single lane. Then, over the weekend, from 8 p.m. Friday, July 14 through 5 a.m. Monday, July 17, the work zone area of US 219 will be closed to all traffic. There will be two detours in place: one is a trucks and another for passenger vehicles.

The truck detour will be as follows:

  • Trucks traveling north on US 219 will turn right onto WV 90 and continue 13 miles to a left on US 50 (George Washington Highway). Drivers will continue on US 50 for 7 miles back to US 219.
  • Trucks traveling south on US 219 will make a left onto US 50 and continue for 7 miles, then turn left on WV 90. Drivers will follow WV 90 for 13 miles to the end of the detour at US 219.

The passenger vehicle detour will be as follows:

  • Vehicles traveling south on US 219 will turn right onto US 50 and continue for 4.5 miles to a left turn onto WV 24. Drivers will continue for 5.5 miles back to US 219.
  • Vehicles traveling north on US 219 will keep left and continue for 5.5 miles on WV 24. Drivers will turn right onto US 50 and continue for 4.5 miles until the end of the detour at the intersection of US 219.

Additionally, the connection of Cash Valley Road to US 219 will be closed July 10 to July 17. Prior to the activation of the temporary traffic signal and posted detour, daytime single lane and shoulder closures work is possible 7 a.m. to 8 p.m. Mondays through Fridays. After the weekend closure with the detour, single-lane closures or shoulder closures may intermittently occur throughout the completion of the project.

Contractor First Fruits Excavating Inc. of Ridgeley, W.Va., will perform the work. The State Highway Administration understands lane closures and temporary detours can be an inconvenience but are necessary to maintain a safe and reliable transportation system.

Warm weather is here, and all motorists are urged to remain vigilant for pedestrians, bicyclists and motorcyclists. Remember motorcycles can be hidden from view in vehicle blind spots. Please look twice and save a life.

Motorists in need may dial #77 on their mobile devices for roadside assistance.
