I-68 ramp to MD 658 Will Temporarily Close; Traffic Will Be Detoured 9 a.m. to 3 p.m.
(October 20, 2022) – The Maryland Department of Transportation State Highway Administration (MDOT SHA) is continuing its resurfacing project along eastbound I-68 (National Freeway) in the LaVale area of Allegany County.
As part of the project, crews will temporarily close the on-ramp eastbound I-68 at MD 658 from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. on Monday, October 24. Motorists will be directed to use MD 53 (Winchester Road) on-ramp during the closure. There will be a right lane closure on I-68 eastbound from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. while crews mill and pave that section of highway. All work is weather permitting.
This is part of a $400,000 resurfacing project along eastbound I-68 at the bridges over MD 658 (Vocke Road). MDOT SHA contractor Belt Paving, of Cumberland, is doing the work. Message boards, signage and barrels will be in place to guide motorists through the work zone.
The Move Over Law in Maryland requires motorists to make a lane change or slow down when approaching any stopped, standing or parked vehicle displaying hazard warning lights, road flares or other caution signals. The expanded law is in place to protect emergency responders and motorists who encounter a roadside emergency.
Motorists in need may dial #77 on their mobile device for roadside assistance.
